Head of Sales / Area Sales Manager – Plant Equipment
Location: Greater London, M4 corridor to South West, Midlands, and surrounding areas
Salary: £85,000 – £100,000 DOE + Bonus
OTE: Up to £200,000 per annum
Hours: 08:00 – 18:00, Monday to Friday (47.5 hours per week, 30 mins unpaid break)

About the Role We are seeking an experienced Head of Sales / Area Sales Manager to lead and grow a high-performing plant equipment sales division, encompassing key partner brands including Construction Equipment, Dumpers, and Telehandlers. This is a senior leadership role with P&L responsibility, managing a wide territory across the South-West, London and Midlands.
You will drive strategic sales growth, develop and motivate your team, and manage all aspects of sales operations. With a long-standing record of success in large firms and deep sector knowledge of plant and automotive industries, you will be instrumental in shaping and executing commercial strategies that deliver exceptional results.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and oversee strategic sales plans aligned with business objectives across the assigned territory.
- Lead, motivate, and manage a sales team to achieve and exceed ambitious sales targets.
- Maintain and grow key account relationships by understanding client needs and delivering tailored plant solutions.
- Manage P&L, budgets, pricing strategies, and discount levels to optimise profitability.
- Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and industry developments to identify new opportunities.
- Ensure professional presentation and management of product ranges, including demonstrators and new machinery.
- Conduct regular sales meetings, training needs analysis, and performance reviews for your team.
- Report accurate financial, pipeline, and sales performance data to senior leadership and the board.
- Encourage innovation and continuous improvement within the sales function.
- Travel across the territory regularly to meet clients and support sales activities.
What We’re Looking For
- Proven senior sales leadership experience with a strong track record in the Plant or HGV.
- Deep knowledge of construction and earthmoving equipment, as well as fleet and transportation logistics.
- Demonstrable success managing large teams and driving business growth within complex organisations.
- Strong commercial acumen, including P&L and KPI management.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and influencing skills with senior stakeholders.
- Self-motivated, goal-oriented, and capable of working independently as well as leading a team.
- Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, or a relevant field is preferred but not essential.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office, CRM software, and sales analytics tools.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel extensively across the assigned territory.
