Location: Basildon
Salary: £32,000 – £36,000 per annum
Hours: Full-Time | 40 hours per week
The Company
Our client is a leading provider of welfare and accommodation solutions, supplying high-quality units across the UK. Due to continued growth, they are looking to recruit a Production Engineer to join their Service Centre team.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with a mechanical, maintenance, engineering, or refurbishment background who is looking to develop their skills within a growing business that offers structured training and progression.
The Role
As a Workshop Engineer , you will be responsible for the maintenance, preparation, repair, refurbishment, and upgrade of welfare units, ensuring they are fully operational and ready for hire.
The role will involve working within the Service Centre completing planned maintenance, fault finding, repairs, refurbishment work, and supporting operational targets. There may also be occasions where you are required to attend customer sites to complete servicing or repair work.
Our client operates a structured salary progression programme, meaning salary increases are available as additional training and qualifications are completed.
Key Responsibilities Maintenance & Unit Preparation
- Carry out servicing, maintenance, and repair work on welfare units
- Prepare off-hire units to company quality standards ready for rehire
- Complete refurbishment work including cleaning, painting, flooring, carpentry, and general repairs
- Replace consumables such as batteries and gas bottles
- Inspect water systems, electrical fittings, locks, and internal components
- Carry out unit upgrades in line with engineering instructions and production schedules
Technical Servicing
- Service generators and associated equipment
- Inspect and maintain gas installations where qualified
- Carry out electrical inspections where trained and authorised
- Diagnose faults and complete repairs efficiently
- Liaise with third-party specialists when required
Site-Based Support
- Attend customer sites when required to complete repairs or servicing
- Ensure welfare units remain operational during hire periods
- Represent the business professionally on-site
Documentation & Compliance
- Complete worksheets and inspection reports accurately
- Record defects and completed works correctly
- Maintain service and stock documentation
- Conduct vehicle safety checks prior to use
- Work in line with Health & Safety procedures and Safe Systems of Work
Candidate Requirements
- Previous experience in a maintenance, engineering, mechanical, or refurbishment role
- Good fault-finding and practical engineering skills
- Experience in carpentry, plumbing, painting, flooring, or similar trades is desirable
- Gas Safe or electrical qualifications are advantageous but not essential
- Willingness to complete further training and qualifications
- Strong attention to detail and quality standards
- Positive attitude and team-focused approach
- Full UK Driving Licence required
Working Hours
- 40 hours per week
- Start times typically between 7:00am and 5:30pm depending on business requirements
