Engineering Chargehand – Nightshift

Location: Huddersfield

Salary: £24.02 per hour (£46,214 per annum)

Hours: 37 hours per week | Sunday – Thursday | 10:00pm – 6:00am

Contract: Full Time | Permanent

Kemp Recruitment is working in partnership with a well-established commercial vehicle operator to recruit an experienced Engineering Chargehand for their busy engineering depot in Huddersfield.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced HGV or PSV Technician looking to take the next step into a supervisory role, or an existing Chargehand seeking a new challenge with a reputable employer.

The Role As Engineering Chargehand, you will support the day-to-day running of the workshop, ensuring maintenance work is completed efficiently while leading and supporting the engineering team during the night shift. You will also deputise for workshop management when required and play a key role in maintaining fleet availability.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and support the engineering team on shift.
• Allocate planned maintenance and reactive repair work.
• Carry out vehicle servicing, diagnostics and repairs where required.
• Monitor workshop productivity and vehicle availability.
• Liaise with the operations team regarding breakdowns and vehicle changeovers.
• Process vehicle defect reports and maintain workshop records.
• Update engineering status boards and daily workshop logs.
• Ensure compliance with all Health & Safety procedures.
• Oversee vehicle fuelling, cleaning and parking when required.
• Manage overtime in line with workshop requirements.

Requirements

• NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance, PSV, HGV or Vehicle Repair.
• Previous experience maintaining HGVs, PSVs or commercial vehicles.
• Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills.
• Previous supervisory or team leader experience is advantageous.
• Good IT and communication skills.
• Full UK driving licence.
• PCV licence, or willingness to obtain one, would be beneficial.
