We’re recruiting for a Service Manager to join a leading materials handling business, in Wakefield.
This is a hands-on management position overseeing a team of field-based engineers and ensuring the day-to-day service operation runs efficiently.
You’ll be responsible for coordinating workloads, supporting engineers, managing customer requirements and keeping the workshop/service function running to a high standard.
 
Daily responsibilities:

• Managing a team of field service engineers – allocating work, supporting them and dealing with performance/development.
• Planning and managing service schedules – making sure planned maintenance, servicing and inspections happen when they’re supposed to.
• Managing breakdowns and call-outs – getting the right engineer to the customer quickly and minimising equipment downtime.
• Customer management – being the main service contact for customers and making sure issues are dealt with professionally.
• Technical oversight – you don’t necessarily do the engineering yourself, but you need enough technical knowledge to understand forklift/material-handling problems and support engineers.
• Parts and repair coordination – ensuring engineers have the parts and resources needed to complete jobs.
• Commercial/service administration – keeping an eye on service costs, jobs, productivity and the profitability of the service department.
• Health & safety/compliance – making sure engineers and equipment are being maintained appropriately.
• Working with sales and other departments – particularly around customer accounts, equipment requirements and contracts.

 
Experience you will need:

• You must come from one of the following backgrounds: Forklift / materials handling, Plant hire, Agricultural machinery, HGV, Access platforms / MEWPs
• Strong leadership, technical expertise and customer focus, with responsibility for overseeing engineers and managing service schedules.
• Experience managing field based engineers

 
Package:

• Salary: £40,000 – £45,000
• Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00am–4:30pm
