Hours: Monday–Friday (Day Shift / 40hrs)
Shift: Flexible shifts available: 6am–3pm | 7am–4pm | 8am–5pm
Holidays: 22 days + Bank Holidays
HGV Technician / HGV Mechanic / HGV Engineer Opportunity
A well-established fleet maintenance business with over 50 years’ industry experience, multiple sites nationwide, and circa 300 employees is looking to recruit an experienced HGV Technician / HGV Mechanic / HGV Engineer for its Skelmersdale depot.
The Role – HGV Technician / HGV Mechanic / HGV Engineer
You will be responsible for maintaining a mixed fleet of approximately 60 HGVs (DAF, IVECO, Mercedes, Scania & Volvo) and 150 trailers, working as part of an established workshop team you will spend 30% of your time on trailers and 70% on trucks
Carrying out routine servicing, inspections, and preventative maintenance
Diagnosing and repairing mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic faults
Completing MOT preparation and presentation (HGV & trailer)
Working to DVSA standards and company compliance procedures
Carrying out defect rectification and safety inspections
Completing job cards and maintenance records accurately
Supporting breakdown repairs where required
Ensuring workshop housekeeping and H&S standards are maintained
Working collaboratively with other technicians to meet fleet availability targets
Time split between HGV units and trailers
Participation in a voluntary on-call rota
What We’re Looking For – HGV Technician / HGV Mechanic / HGV Engineer
Proven experience as an HGV Technician, HGV Mechanic or HGV Engineer
NVQ Level 3 / City & Guilds in HGV, Heavy Vehicle Maintenance, or equivalent (or time-served)
HGV Class 1 or 2 Licence desirable but not essential
Strong diagnostic and fault-finding ability
Experience working on trailers (desirable but not essential)
Good understanding of DVSA and MOT standards
