HGV Mechanic – Rotating Shifts (Blaydon)

Pay: £18.03 per hour
Hours: Monday – Friday, 45 hours per week + 1 in 2 Saturday mornings (07:00 – 12:00)
Shift Pattern:

• Week 1: 07:00 – 16:30
• Week 2: 11:00 – 20:30
  (30-minute unpaid lunch)
  Contract: Permanent

Earning Potential (OTE)

• Hourly Rate: £18.03 per hour
• Basic Salary: £42,190 per year (based on 45-hour week)
• Saturday Rate: Paid at time-and-a-half (1.5x) – £27.05 per hour
• With 3 hours overtime per week: + £4,218 per year
• Realistic OTE: £46,500 – £48,000+ per year (including Saturdays and overtime)

Overview
We’re looking for a skilled HGV Mechanic to join a professional workshop in Blaydon on a rotating shift pattern. This role offers a strong hourly rate, a structured early/late rotation, and regular Saturday mornings paid at time-and-a-half. You’ll carry out servicing, maintenance, and repairs on heavy goods vehicles in a modern, well-equipped workshop.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out servicing, maintenance, and repairs on heavy goods vehicles
• Perform diagnostics and fault-finding using modern equipment
• Ensure all work is completed safely, on time, and in line with workshop procedures
• Maintain accurate job cards and documentation
• Uphold excellent workshop organisation and safety standards

What You’ll Need

• Recognised qualification in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance (NVQ Level 3 / City & Guilds) or equivalent experience
• Proven experience as an HGV Mechanic in a commercial workshop
• Strong diagnostic and technical repair skills
• Full UK driving licence
• Flexibility to work rotating shifts and 1 in 2 Saturday mornings
