HGV Mechanic – Night Shift (Blaydon)

Pay: £22.60 per hour
Hours: Tuesday – Friday, 19:00 – 07:00 (46 hours per week, 30-minute unpaid lunch already deducted)
Contract: Permanent

Earning Potential (OTE)

• Hourly Rate: £22.60 per hour
• Basic Salary: £54,059 per year (based on 46-hour week)
• Overtime Rate: Paid at time-and-a-half (1.5x) – £33.90 per hour
• With 3 hours overtime per week: + £5,288 per year
• Realistic OTE: £59,000 – £62,000+ per year

Overview
We’re looking for a skilled HGV Mechanic to join a professional workshop in Blaydon on a permanent night shift. This role offers a condensed 4-night working week (Tuesday–Friday), giving you a three-day weekend every week while earning a competitive rate of £22.60 per hour. With overtime paid at time-and-a-half, this is a fantastic opportunity to maximise your earnings in a modern, well-equipped workshop.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out servicing, maintenance, and repairs on heavy goods vehicles
• Perform diagnostics and fault-finding using modern equipment
• Ensure all work is completed safely, on time, and in line with workshop procedures
• Maintain accurate job cards and documentation
• Uphold excellent workshop organisation and safety standards

What You’ll Need

• Recognised qualification in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance (NVQ Level 3 / City & Guilds) or equivalent experience
• Proven experience as an HGV Mechanic in a commercial workshop
• Strong diagnostic and technical repair skills
• Full UK driving licence
• Flexibility to work night shifts (Tuesday–Friday, 7pm–7am)
