Overview
We’re looking for a Service Advisor to join an award-winning commercial vehicle specialist in Exeter. This is a proper customer-facing role – you’ll be the link between customers and the workshop, managing bookings, updates, and repairs from first contact to handover. Our client is a multi-accredited employer with manufacturer training, genuine progression pathways, and a reputation for keeping good people. If you’ve got motor industry service advisor experience and you know how to keep customers calm and informed, even when things go wrong, this is the one.
Key Responsibilities
- Correctly capturing customer details and vehicle faults at the first point of contact
- Taking telephone bookings and accurately loading them into the workshop system
- Effective use of workshop loading to maximise capacity at all times
- Raising job cards – ensuring all necessary and compliant documentation is in the job pack
- Informing customers of their ongoing vehicle status throughout the repair
- Entering additions and changes to the customer database
- Handing over finished vehicles with a full explanation of repairs carried out
- Monitoring whether repairs are being completed to the required delivery time
- Actively selling after-sales services, including Service Contracts
- Discussing and arranging payment with customers
- Providing advice on warranties and service requirements
- Explaining vehicle test requirements for legally required inspections
- Arranging schedules for MOT and vehicle inspections
What You’ll Need
- Background in the same or similar Service Advisor role within the motor industry (essential)
- Strong communication skills – you stay reassuring even in difficult situations
- Ability to manage workshop loading and customer expectations at the same time
- Attention to detail – first-time capture of faults and customer data is critical
- Experience with dealership systems (preferred but not essential)
- You’ll be a great fit if you’re organised, calm under pressure, and want a stable role with a nationally recognised, high-retention employer that invests in its people.
Think you might be a good fit?
If you’ve got motor industry service advisor experience and you know how to keep a workshop full and customers happy, there’s manufacturer training, a clear shift pattern, and a team that’s been around for years because it’s a decent place to work.
