Location: Somerset
Salary: £50,000-£60,000 depending on skills, experience and qualifications
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm
The Transport Planning Manager Opportunity
We’re looking for a solid Transport Planning Manager to join our growing family-owned logistics business here in Somerset.
This is a hands-on leadership role where you’ll manage a team of six Transport Planners and take charge of our nationwide transport operation. You’ll make sure we keep delivering great service to our customers while getting the best out of our fleet in a busy 24/7 environment.

- Multi-temperature fleet of 60+ vehicles
- 70 + drivers
- UK-wide deliveries plus European import and export work
- Mainly food logistics – dairy, meat, ready meals, beverages and confectionery

Key responsibilities of the transport planning manager
- Lead, coach and develop the team of Transport Planners
- Take ownership of daily planning and route optimisation across the UK
- Get the maximum out of our fleet while maintaining high service levels
- Make sure we stay fully compliant with Drivers’ Hours, Working Time Directive and all UK transport regulations
- Keep a close eye on KPIs, customer service standards and vehicle utilisation
- Work closely with drivers, the warehouse team and customers
- Manage delivery schedules, collections and trailer movements
- Keep pushing for better ways of working in planning
What we’re looking for in a transport planning manager
- Previous experience as a Transport Planning Manager, Senior Transport Planner or in a similar transport operations role
- Good people management skills – you’re comfortable leading and supporting a team
- Strong working knowledge of UK transport operations and compliance
- Solid understanding of Drivers’ Hours regulations and tachograph rules
- Excellent geographical knowledge of the UK road network
- Experience planning with articulated vehicle fleets
- Commercially minded, well organised and practical
- Confident using Transport Management Systems and Microsoft Office
