Kemp Recruitment is recruiting on behalf of a leading national plant hire company for an experienced Workshop Manager to join one of their busiest depots near Southampton.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established business where you’ll be responsible for leading a team of up to 15 engineers, ensuring the workshop operates efficiently while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality and customer service.

The Role
As the Workshop Manager, you’ll oversee the day-to-day running of the workshop, ensuring all servicing, maintenance and repairs are completed efficiently while maximising fleet availability.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading, managing and motivating a team of up to 15 Plant Engineers
- Planning and allocating workloads to ensure the workshop operates efficiently
- Overseeing the servicing, maintenance and repair of a large fleet of plant equipment
- Providing technical support and guidance to engineers when required
- Monitoring productivity and ensuring workshop targets and KPIs are achieved
- Ensuring all equipment is inspected, serviced and ready for hire
- Managing health and safety within the workshop and ensuring company procedures are followed
- Working closely with the Hire Desk and Transport teams to coordinate fleet availability
- Supporting the recruitment, training and development of engineers
- Carrying out quality control checks to ensure high engineering standards
- Managing workshop resources and liaising with the parts department to minimise downtime
- Driving continuous improvement across the workshop
About You
To be successful in this role you’ll have:
- Previous experience as a Workshop Manager, Service Manager, Engineering Supervisor, Workshop Foreman or Senior Plant Engineer
- Strong hands-on knowledge of plant equipment, including servicing, diagnostics and repairs
- Previous experience leading and developing engineering teams
- Excellent organisational and communication skills
- The ability to prioritise workloads and manage a busy workshop
- Experience within the Plant Hire, Construction Equipment or Heavy Plant industry
- An NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Plant Maintenance, Heavy Vehicle Maintenance or a related engineering discipline would be advantageous
- A full UK Driving Licence
