About the Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Engineering Manager to join a growing business within the powered access industry.
We are looking for a hands-on, proactive and Engineering Manager to take overall responsibility for the maintenance, compliance and reliability of a vehicle fleet across the UK.
This is a key role within the business and would suit an experienced engineer or foreman / engineering manager who enjoys being involved at an operational level, isn’t afraid to get hands-on and has a strong focus on keeping equipment safe, compliant and available for customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Take overall responsibility for the maintenance and engineering of the vehicle and MEWP fleet.
- Ensure LOLER inspections, MOTs, servicing and planned maintenance are completed on time.
- Drive a proactive maintenance strategy to reduce breakdowns, downtime and reactive repairs.
- Coordinate engineering support across the UK, utilising internal engineers and trusted subcontractors.
- Ensure customers receive a fast, efficient and professional engineering response.
- Support engineers with technical issues and complex faults, getting hands-on where required.
- Ensure critical parts and spares are available to minimise equipment downtime.
- Manage relationships and costs with manufacturers, parts suppliers and subcontract engineers.
- Identify recurring faults and implement improvements to increase fleet reliability.
- Work closely with Operations and depot teams to ensure clear communication around equipment availability and repairs.
- Monitor engineering costs while maintaining high standards of safety, compliance and customer service.
About You
We’re looking for someone with:
- A strong mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, plant or engineering background.
- Experience within MEWPs, powered access, access equipment or commercial vehicles would be advantageous.
- A good understanding of LOLER, servicing, maintenance and vehicle compliance.
- Previous experience managing, coordinating or supporting engineers across multiple locations.
- A practical, hands-on approach to engineering.
- Excellent fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
- Strong planning, organisation and communication skills.
- Commercial awareness with the ability to balance customer service, fleet availability and cost.
- A proactive approach, taking ownership and identifying potential issues before they become problems.
