Skill Trainer – Asset Presentation (Bus & Premises Cleaning)
Location: South London Bus Depot (with travel across multiple garages)
Salary: £40,000 – £45,000 (depending on experience)
Contract: Permanent
About the Role An established and leading bus operator is seeking a Skill Trainer – Bus & Premises Cleaning to support the delivery of consistently high cleaning standards across bus and premises operations.
This is a key role within a growing operational function, supporting the transition to more in-house services and driving improved standards across the network.
Role Overview The Skill Trainer will be responsible for delivering high-quality, consistent, and standards-driven training to cleaning and shunting operatives. You will ensure colleagues are fully competent, confident, and compliant in cleaning procedures, safe working practices, and the correct use of equipment and chemicals.
Working closely with operational managers, you will provide hands-on coaching, assess on-site performance, and help embed best practices that support safety, quality, and professionalism.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and deliver induction, refresher, and upskilling training for cleaning operatives
- Provide practical, hands-on coaching covering cleaning techniques, machinery, equipment, chemicals, and PPE
- Ensure all training aligns with company policies, COSHH regulations, and Health & Safety legislation
- Conduct on-site performance assessments, identifying skill gaps and supporting development plans
- Maintain accurate training records, certifications, and compliance documentation
- Support managers with technical advice on cleaning processes and safe systems of work
- Contribute to continuous improvement by recommending new methods, technologies, and efficiencies
- Promote a strong culture of safety, professionalism, and high standards
- Support incident investigations through targeted retraining where required
- Assist with audits, quality reviews, and operational improvement initiatives
What We’re Looking For
- Experience in professional cleaning operations (transport, industrial, or facilities environments preferred)
- Strong knowledge of cleaning techniques, equipment, chemicals, and safe working practices
- Excellent communication and coaching skills
- Confident delivering both classroom-based and on-the-job training
- Good understanding of COSHH, Health & Safety, and environmental standards
- Strong organisational skills with high attention to detail
- Proactive and committed to continuous improvement
Qualifications
- Training qualification (essential)
- Train-the-Trainer qualification (or willingness to achieve)
- IOSH or equivalent Health & Safety qualification (or willingness to achieve)
- Recognised cleaning qualification (e.g. BICS, BCCA or equivalent) – desirable
Working Pattern & Travel
- Based at a South London bus depot
- Regular travel across multiple sites required
- Flexibility in working hours to meet operational needs
