Location: Doncaster
Shift Pattern: 4 on / 4 off (6:00pm – 6:30am)
Salary: £59,904 – £62,000 per annum
An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced HGV professional to step into a Night Shift Supervisor role within a busy, high-performing workshop environment in Doncaster. This is a hands-on leadership position, combining technical expertise with responsibility for driving team performance, efficiency, and compliance across the night operation.
You will play a key role in ensuring the fleet is maintained to the highest standards, while leading and supporting a team of technicians to deliver consistent, high-quality work.
The Role
Reporting to the Head of VMU Operations, you will take full responsibility for the night shift, overseeing workshop activity while remaining actively involved on the tools. You will ensure all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in line with operational and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out servicing, maintenance, and repairs on HGVs and associated components
- Allocate and supervise workloads to maximise productivity and minimise downtime
- Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance in line with Operator Licence requirements
- Diagnose faults using appropriate diagnostic equipment and rectify issues effectively
- Ensure all job cards, inspection sheets, and compliance documentation are completed accurately
- Road test vehicles pre- and post-repair to confirm roadworthiness
- Oversee parts ordering, warranty processes, and component exchanges
- Monitor and drive technician performance, efficiency, and timekeeping
- Audit completed work and sign off inspections to ensure vehicles meet safety standards
- Produce and manage VOR (Vehicle Off Road) reporting
- Maintain high workshop standards in cleanliness, organisation, and discipline
- Enforce health & safety and environmental procedures at all times
- Lead by example, fostering a proactive, professional, and team-focused culture
About You
Essential:
- City & Guilds or NVQ Level 3 in Vehicle Maintenance OR time served
- Strong background in HGV maintenance and repair
- Full UK driving licence
- Solid understanding of health & safety practices within a workshop environment
